DMITRI'S NEIGHBORHOOD
Feeling at home with chemistry basics.
Read Dmitri's Neighborhood and you will feel like you are hanging out with friends.
Make friends with chemistry.
Dmitri Mendeleyev developed the Periodic Table of Elements as a way to organize the chemical elements, yet when the untrained eye looks at it there is often a sense of confusion. The intent of this book is to provide a lighthearted first look at chemistry so that sense of confusion is short-lived.
Join hydrogen as he takes you through his neighborhood and introduces you to his element friends. H, as he prefers to be called, will help you get to know celebrities like helium and lithium. H knows them so well he just calls them He and Li. One of his favorites, oxygen, is often known as O, but he prefers to call her Oxana (it just sounds more exciting.) H will introduce you to the newest element in the neighborhood, ununseptium or 117. His discovery was just announced. You will learn how he finds his place in the chemmunity, why he is called 117, and how he will be permanently named.
Atom has a big presence in the neighborhood. He is very close to all the neighbors. In fact, without Atom, the elements would be nothing. You will get to know Dmitri's Neighborhood inside and out, the new and the old.

As you read Dmitri's Neighborhood, remember that every scientist started off as a kid who had to learn about science. Reading it will not make you into an Einstein, but it might start you down the path.
